The Tyrone Area High School Marching Band started their competition season on a high note.
The band put their hard work and efforts to the test on Saturday, September 20 by competing in the Milton “Fall Foliage” Festival Band competition in Milton.
There were five bands competing in the Group 2 competition. Tyrone came away with first place in the Group 2 Festival division. They also won specialty awards of High Percussion, High Drum Major, High Auxiliary and High Music. Their score was a 78.8 out of a possible 100.
This is the highest score that the marching band has received in competition for three years. The students have been preparing for the competition season since July of 2008.
One of the judges commented, “You have a dedicated group of students and it showed in their performance.”
The TAHS Marching Band is under the direction and leadership of Mark Murphy, Band Director and Tom Verzilla, Assistant Band Director.
The band will next compete in Dubois on October 11.
The marching band will be hosting “Music In The Valley” on Saturday, October 18 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field. Tickets will be available at the gate or contact Mark Murphy at the high school.
There will be 10 bands in competition. Come and support the Marching Band program. You will be pleased to see how their hard work, efforts and dedication pay off.
