This year Farm/City Day is moving back to downtown Tyrone, and the Tyrone Area Historical Society will be taking part in the festivities.
A booth will be set up along Pennsylvania Avenue, but a special event will take place at the History Museum.
Four local authors will be on hand for a book signing. The event will be outside, under canopies, weather permitting.
The authors include Jeffrey L. Adams, Paula Zitzler, David Seidel and Luther Gette.
Adams, 48, is a native of Tyrone and a 1978 graduate of Tyrone High. His keen interest in local history comes naturally, beginning at the age of eight-years-old.
The book is entitled “Tyrone”, and was printed by Arcadia Publishing. It’s part of Arcadia’s Images of America series, and the soft-cover book is comprised of 128 pages.
In over 200 vintage photographs, Adams and R. Curt Chinnici, a collaborating author and editor, take readers down memory lane, from Tyrone’s time as a railroad terminus to today’s charming community.
Paula Zitzler’s book is titled “Unscheduled Stop: The Town of Tyrone and the Wreck of the Walter L. Main Circus Train”. This book is hot of the presses and will be available to the public for the first time.
Zitzler worked closely with local historian, Susie O’Brien, to create this book which looks at the tragic accident that occurred 115 years ago on May 30, 1893, taking the life of five individuals.
David W. Seidel’s book captures the colorful past of Pennsylvania’s popular landmark, the Horseshoe Curve.
Seidel uses vintage photographs to chronicle the rich heritage of the Horseshoe Curve.
He is a founding member of the Horseshoe Curve Chapter, national Railway Historical Society and serves as its chapter historian.
The final book featured will be on the Bellefonte Central Railroad, by Michael Bezilla, who is unable to attend the book signing. However, co-author Luther Gette will be on hand during Farm/City Day.
Gette is a native of Philipsburg and is currently working with Bezilla on another book discussing the railroad of Centre County, which will feature a lot more information from the Tyrone area. The hope is to meet area residents who will be able to add to their research, perhaps having pictures and stories about the local railroad.
All four books will be available for purchase during the book signing.
