It shouldn’t be too long before visitors to the Bellwood-Antis School District can identify the district employees and faculty who are walking the halls of the schools.
Last week, school board members discussed the possibility of requiring all district employee to wear identification badges while at work.
“If you go out to businesses anywhere in the community, the majority of the people working there are wearing nametags,” said Brian Toth, superintendent of Bellwood-Antis School District. “It’s purely a safety and security issue. There isn’t one specific reason or event that has caused this. I just think it’s important that people who come into the school know who the employees are.”
Toth said security is a top priority at the the school, noting that visitors can only enter through one entrance, and there, they have to sign in. He said the name tags will also distinguish who the employees of the district are from the visitors in the school.
“I haven’t been here that long and I still don’t know who everyone is,” said Toth. “There are a lot of other schools that are doing it, and Bellwood-Antis should be no different.”
Toth said the entire B-A School Board of Directors is in agreement with the proposition, but a vote must be taken first. The vote is scheduled for the regular voting meeting tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the high/middle school cafeteria.
The board is also expected to take action on the following items:
•approving Judy Dorezas and Christine Claar to escort members of the French and Spanish clubs to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at a cost of $588.27;
•approve Dec. 22 as the make-up day for Sept. 19. The district closed classes in anticipation of the weather associated with Hurricane Isabel; and
•approve a number of substitute teachers hirings.
