On June 18, Trooper Charles Schaefer and members of the Troop G Vice Unit utilized a confidential informant to make a purchase of a half pound of marijuana in a school zone in the Port Matilda area of Centre County. On July 2, a pound of marijuana was purchased by the informant from Evans, again in a school zone in Port Matilda.
On August 22, after Evans left Penn State University, his place of employment, he was advised that he was under investigation and that a search warrant had been obtained and would be executed on his residence. In the search, the troopers found four baggies of marijuana in his car, $2,000 and during the search of his residence there was 30 pounds of marijuana, scales, packing material and six marijuana plants were found growing behind his residence.
In the affidavit of probable cause, it was said that a state trooper found 133 one hundred dollar savings bonds in a desk in the living room. Troopers also found correspondence relative property in Potter County, a notebook of receipts relative promissory notes from James Kirk, additional financial papers and a receipt for marijuana seized from Kirk.
This morning, as Evans was leaving for work, troopers executed the arrest warrant on Evans. As troopers executed the warrant, they found a small baggie of marijuana in his lunch cooler. A search of his home was granted by his wife and troopers found a half pound of marijuana and an electronic scale hidden in the ceiling of the basement.
Evans was arraigned before District Justice Fred Miller and bail was set at $80,000 between the combined charges. Evans’ wife posted bail and Evans was released.
The preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the courtroom of District Justice Fred Miller.
