The brainstorming sessions are completed. Camera batteries are being charged. Volunteers from the Tyrone area are ready to become film makers this Saturday.
The much anticipated shooting day for the upcoming Tyrone “Our Hometown” project to air on WPSX-TV in December, is ready for action.
Local volunteers have been given their video assignments and will hit to the streets, sidewalks, buildings and parks of the Tyrone area to start shooting video for the program. Then they will travel to the studios of WPSX, at a later date, and narrate details on the video they shot.
All the video taken this Saturday will go into post production, including editing and final production. A special sneak peak of the Tyrone show will take place in town, several weeks before it actually airs on the public broadcasting outlet based in State College.
Among the landmarks, buildings and events that have been assigned for shooting this weekend include: Gray-Veterans Memorial Stadium during the Tyrone football game, area fire halls, Grier School, our beautiful churches, both the Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis school buildings, DelGrosso, Tyrone Hospital, the new railroad station, old pictures and footage from the famous Circus wreck, Epworth Manor, Gardners Candy, the new American Eagle Paper Company, the old and new library buildings, the Armory, the entire downtown Tyrone business district, Burley’s Restaurant, area cemeteries, the Sinking Valley golf course, the Halloween parade from a few nights ago, Reservoir and Soldiers Parks, and Tyrone’s two media outlets, both WTRN radio and The Daily Herald.
There are many more people, places and things that were mentioned, but not assigned or scheduled to be shot this Saturday. Officials with WPSX feel that a lot of what is great about Tyrone will be captured on video, to be shared with the public when the show airs in a few months.
The show will be televised at least once during one of WPSX-TV’s fundraising drives, and will be offered on both DVD and video for anyone who pledges during the drive. The special could be a nice gift for former residents who have moved out of the area. Also copies will be made available through the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce at a later date.
Everyone associated with the project including the television station and the chamber want to thank the twenty plus volunteers for their time and effort in putting together their part of what will be a treasure of Tyrone. WPSX and its popular “Our Home” series has captured small town life in Pennsylvania in communities like Bedford, Huntingdon, Indiana, Bellefonte and Punxsutawney. And now Tyrone will be added to their growing list.
Channel 3 serves a large viewing area, covering almost half of Pennsylvania. The hard efforts of the video volunteers will go a long way to show viewers across the state just how special Tyrone is.
