On Sunday, October 26 at 10:30 morning worship, Tyrone Presbyterians will celebrate The Birthday of The Protestant Church with music that emphasizes Christ As the Foundation Of Their Church and God As The Mighty Fortress of Their Faith.
On this Reformation Sunday 2003, Presbyterians will look back 486 years to that fateful day of October 31, 1517 when Reformer Martin Luther nailed his 95 complaints about the church to the cathedral door in Wittenburg, Germany and thereby gave birth to The Protestant Church.
To commemorate The Birthday of The Protestant Church, Presbyterians will rejoice in Christ as the foundation of their church by singing Christ Is Made The Sure Foundation and The Church’s One Foundation.
The Westminster Choir will continue the theme of Christ The Sure Foundation as they render an American Folk Hymn from 1832 entitled How Firm a Foundation. Had this Hymn been written in 1517, Martin Luther would have found comfort in the lyrics as he struggled through some of the fiery trials related to The Birth of The Protestant Church.
Following the morning message by Pastor Robert Dunkelberger, this service celebrating The Protestant Reformation will conclude with a rousing organ improvisation and the singing of Martin Luther’s Battle Hymn Of The Reformation entitled A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.
As Sunday, October 26 approaches, Tyrone Presbyterians encourage folks of this community to join them at their 10:30 a.m. Reformation service where people can celebrate the truth Martin Luther envisioned even 486 years ago – that the message, ministry, mission, and music of the church only can survive if Christians spend their time, talents, and treasuries always reforming.
