Two Bellwood-Antis FFA members earned gold medal awards, and the high school’s team placed third at the state FFA Agricultural Mechanics Contest held this past week at Penn State University.
Joe Carosielli, son of Tony and Kathy Carosielli of Bellwood, placed second overall in the competition. This is Joe’s third straight gold medal in the contest, after placing fourth and 10th in previous years. Also earning gold honors was Brandon Cherry, son of Dale and Katherine Cherry of Tipton, who placed sixth overall in the contest.
The team of Carosielli, Cherry, Matt Hostler and Dustin Hoffer placed third as a team in the contest, just missing second place by 15 points out of 1,000.
Forty-one individuals and nine teams participated in the event, displaying their abilities to repair and operated agricultural equipment, tools and machines.
Jim Mackereth, advisor of the Bellwood-Antis FFA, also attended the competition.
The agricultural mechanics contest was one of 30 different events held during FFA Activities Week at Penn State University, June 8 through 10. More than 1500 FFA members and advisors from across the state attended the event.
