The Tyrone junior high girls basketball teams dropped two games Monday afternoon at home to Bald Eagle Area.
The ninth grade team fell 26-24. A late basket by Bald Eagle Area put Tyrone behind with a minute-and-a-half remaining. The Lady Eagles got the ball back in time for one final shot but it careened off the rim as time expired.
Sarah Halter led the Lady Eagles with 12 points.
The seventh and eighth grade team lost 23-9. Tyrone was held scoreless in the third quarter and scored only once in the second half.
“The ninth grade game was the kind you hate to lose because we played extremely hard and battled,” said Tyrone coach Kerry Naylor. “Kassie Faretta was out most of the first half with foul trouble and we continued to play hard. At one point, we had four seventh graders out there and they held their own and kept us within striking distance, so that’s encouraging. But after coming back from a halftime deficit and leading most of the fourth quarter, it sure was one you would rather win.”
Tyrone plays Philipsburg-Osceola at home Thursday at 3:15 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Philipsburg, but a scheduling conflict forced the home-and-home match-up to be reversed, with Tyrone playing at P-O earlier this month.
