The Tyrone girls volleyball team played the Philipsburg-Osceola Lady Mounties on Monday night at Philipsburg.
The Lady Eagles got off to a slow start in losing the first game 25-8, but then came back to make a match of it, holding game point in game four, before finally falling three games to one.
After losing the first game, the Lady Eagles lost 17-25, and won 25-20, before dropping game four 26-28.
Emily Lloyd set a Tyrone school record for digs in one match with an incredible 33 digs.
Heather Stanton had eight service points for the Tyrone girls, Katie Whitby had 18 assists and Ashley Roth added five kills and 10 blocks.
“We lost a real heartbreaker,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “If we had not started out so flat, it could have been a different story. After the first game, the girls played as well as they have all year. I was really happy with the way they played and the girls were happy also. With the fourth game on the line, our serve was just an inch from being in bounds. Philipsburg went on from there to take the game and the match.
“Emily Lloyd really played terrific defense last night to set the school record for digs. Those shots were not all just lobs coming at her, she was all over the floor digging them out.”
The Tyrone junior varsity lost to Philipsburg-Osceola in two straight games.
The Lady Eagles (4-11) will travel to West Branch on Wednesday for a match. Game time will be 6 p.m.
