The Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils came into their game against the Southern Huntingdon Rockets after losing both games in the County Seat Tournament. B-A’s record was 3-6 with all three wins being in the JVL. The Rockets were trying to improve their 4-7 record, but the Devils would have none of that.
Picking this up with the first basket of the game scored by Mike Blazier for the Blue Devils. B-A would not look back as they would never trail through out the entire game. Tyler McClellan added in a lay-up to make the score 4-2 early in the first quarter. The score would not be tied at all from this point on.
With 4:02 left to play in quarter number one, Paul Greiner dropped in a three pointer to add to B-A’s lead, 7-4. Paul would come back later in the first with a nice dribble drive to put Bellwood up, 11-4 with 1:37 to play. Aaron Bell would increase B-A’s lead even more after he dropped in a long bomb with 30 seconds to play. Bell would add another three pointer as time expired in the first quarter to help B-A jump out to an early lead 17-4 after one period of play.
Second quarter action started when the B-A offense moving the ball from wing to wing until Edmiston no looked a pass to Greiner to fire up the crowd and add to B-A’s ever-increasing lead. McClellan drove to the basket for a hoop the hoop and the harm to make the score 22-6 with 6:48 left in the half. The Rockets would come back a little when Schnarrs got a fast break bucket, but Greiner answered back with a steal and basket of his own to make the score 30-15 with only 47 seconds to play in the half. The half would end with the score being 31-17, B-A way out in front.
Third quarter action will pick up when Baer tried to get the Rockets back into the game with a nice basket.
Aaron Bell got a steal plus the basket, and a foul to put B-A up 36-19 with 5:35 to play in the quarter. B-A did not stop putting on the pressure. Paul Christner gets a steal in the full court press and adds to B-A’s huge margin, 44-21 with 3:00 to play. Christner would then make a terrific pass to Tony DelGrosso for an easy basket. The quarter would end with the score being 48-25, all Blue Devils.
Tyler McClellan opened up fourth quarter scoring with a nice basket to add to his stats. Baer dialed long distance for Southern Huntingdon’s lone three pointer of the game, to make the score 52-28.
Aaron Bell adds to his game-high scoring total when he fired in a deep two to put B-A up by thirty, 59-29 with 3:53 to play in the game.
Coach Keech got a chance to use some seniors that don’t get a lot of playing time in this game. Players like Richard Wood and Aaron Gonzales. Gonzales made the most of his time by dropping in B-A’s last point of the game with seconds left with fans, coaches and players on the bench all screaming for A-Dawg. Wood got some chances to score but couldn’t get the ball to fall. Final score in this blow-out, 62-33.
“We talked about this being a new year, anything that’s happened last year we can’t do anything about. Even though it’s the same season we wanted to come out and start the new year off with a win.” Coach Keech commented after the 29 point win.
Coach, as mentioned before, got to use some players that don’t get to see a lot of court time. He was happy to see them come with a passion and play their hardest.
“What brings more of a smile to my face is to see the guys that do play a lot, cheering on the guys that are in the game. Now they’re in the role that the bench players are every game, and I’m glad to see the support they have for their fellow teammates.”
For Bellwood-Antis (4-6), the next contest will be at Mo Valley on Thursday. Tip-off times will be at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m..
