Picking up where they left off before the holiday break, the Tyrone Junior High Boys basketball team went on the road to defeat Huntingdon 33-22 for their third straight win, and raise their record to 4-2.
Getting off to a slow start, Tyrone fell behind slightly at the end of the first period 6-5, but outscored the Bearcats 11-7 in the second quarter to go into the locker room up 16-13. Chris McCaulley and Brandon Gehret provided the spark in the first half, providing seven and five points, respectively.
In the third quarter, both teams kept pace with Tyrone owning a 10-8 advantage to go up 26-21 behind five points from Jon Hampton. The Eagles pulled away in the fourth with six of Tyrone’s points coming from Josh Bradley.
Tyrone’s next game will be at home next Tuesday, January 11th, against Bald Eagle Area.
In the second contest, the Tyrone 8th graders game stayed undefeated at a 5-0 record by dominating Huntingdon 38-12. The Eagles shut out the Bearcats in the first quarter 6-0, and took a 16-4 halftime lead behind eight points by John Shaffer. Seven Tyrone players got into the scoring column in the second half as Tyrone again shut out the Bearcats in the third quarter, and went on to win.
