“This is her dream,” said Pat Morningstar.
The husband of Crindy Morningstar was talking about his wife’s dream to one day have her own restaurant. The dream has now become a reality.
The Morning Star Family Restaurant opened in Bellwood on Monday at 6 a.m. Mr. Morningstar said it took about two months to get the building which houses the restaurant ready. It’s located at 400 Main Street at the site of the old Martin’s store.
Morningstar was busy eating breakfast along with some of the restaurant’s first customers and wanted to make sure his wife was spotlighted rather than himself.
Crindy Morningstar said, “I’ve cooked in lots of restaurants, but this has been a dream of mine for nearly 20 years.”
Morningstar had previous food service experience at restaurants like The Fifth Wheel and B & D’s in Tyrone.
Morningstar said the establishment was starting out with 10 employees including her husband and herself.
She also commented on what it took to get ready for opening day on Monday.
“There were lots of little things to do,” said Morningstar. “We had lots of help from our family and friends, they put a lot of hours in here.”
At a Bellwood Borough Council meeting in November, Mr. Morningstar said that thanks to his wife’s previous experience the new restaurant would have a customer base of about 70 people who had said they’d visit the restaurant upon its opening.
During the November meeting, Council member Wayne Snare said, “We’re glad to see another restaurant, another business come to our town.”
Council member Chris Creek thanked Mr. Morningstar for his service to the United States for his years in the Marine Corps and said, “I really appreciate the fact that that building is going to be used.”
The restaurant is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and offers dine-in take-out and delivery service. It also features daily breakfast. lunch and dinner specials.
The phone number at The Morning Star is 742-9100.
