Boyd Adie Gensamer, 95, formerly of Spackman Lane, Port Matilda died Sunday, February 13, 2005 at University Park Nursing Center, State College.
Mr. Gensamer was a member of Martha United Methodist Church.
He survived as a Cpl. in the 413th INF. Regt., 104th INF. Div. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
He was a barber in the service for officers and enlisted men, the manager of Gensamer Esso gas station for 27 years and had worked in the maintenance department at Bald Eagle Area High School, retiring in 1974. He was a veteran meat cutter, enjoyed bowling, was a master at hunting and fishing, loved to sing and whistle and was well known in the community for his beautifully manicured lawn and gardens. He looked forward to camping at the Grange Fair each summer with his family.
Mr. Gensamer was a member of the Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. No. 282 of Tyrone and VFW Post 1600 of Bellefonte. He had served eight years as a school board member during the formation of the Bald Eagle Area School District.
He was a former member of I.O.O.F. of Port Matilda, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Centre Forrest No. 129, Port Matilda Sportsman’s Club, Port Matilda Volunteer Fire Company No. 15 and Port Matilda Senior Citizens.
Mr. Gensamer was born at home in Warriors Mark Twp., Huntingdon Co. on September 6, 1909, a son of the late Harry Henry and Bessie Ortensa Cupp Gensimore.
His wife, the former Jean Lucille Williams, preceded him in death May 14, 1996. They were married January 4, 1933.
He is survived by two daughters, Louise Jeannine (Alex) Giedroc of State College and Carol Anita McCloskey of Port Matilda; three grandchildren, Lisa M. (Ron) Williams, Bellefonte, Darren F. (Brenda) Walker, Bellefonte and Greta L. Panasiti of Centre Hall and five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Valaree Williams and Jordan Williams of Bellefonte, Jesse Walker and Devan Walker of Bellefonte and 16 step-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister-in-law Louise Hipple Gensimore of Warriors Mark and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his favorite kitty, Minnie.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Eliza Hoover, Irene Bennett and Viola Stiver, one brother Hayes Gensimore and son-in-law Kenneth McCloskey.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2005 at The Martha United Methodist Church, Ardery Hollow Road, Port Matilda at noon where military honors will be accorded. Friends will be received at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Pastor Kevin St. Martin will be officiating.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Williams Cemetery, Huston Twp., Centre Co. Memorial contributions may be made to The Martha United Methodist Church, c/o Dennis Richards, 194 Ardery Hollow Road, Port Matilda Pa. 16870.
