Rick Day Construction won their second straight game knocking off Ferguson’s Pest Control 12-7 to jump out on top of the Tyrone Area Youth Baseball Association league with a 2-0 record. In the second game, Gardner’s Candies took Elks by a 143-3 count. After the first two days of the 2005 season, Rick Day Construction stands at the top with a 2-0 record, while the other three teams are all 1-1.
In Minor League action, Cowfer’s Contractors edged Elks 8-6 and Chill-n-Grill downed Knights of Columbus 12-4.

Rick Day Construction 12 Ferguson’s Pest Control 7
In a battle of first day winners, Ferguson’s Pest Control outscored Rick Day Construction 6-2 over the final three innings in the first major league game played, on May 17. Unfortunately for Ferguson’s, however, Rick Day Construction went to work early, scoring 10 times in the first two innings and then cruised to a 12-7 triumph. Ferguson’s came back with three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough.
Jeremy Miller was the big stick for Rick Day with pair of base hits and three runs scored. Drew Miller bashed a solo home run in the fifth inning for the Construction crew and scored twice along with Ricky Day, and Ian Murray. Richard Crabtree drilled a triple to help the cause.
Korry Cowher had two hits for Ferguson’s and Jimmy Ferguson had a double and scored twice.
Jeremy Miller pitched the first three innings for Rick Day, striking out six and walking two for the win. Johnny Romano took the loss for Ferguson’s.

Gardner’s Candies 14 Elks 3
In the late game, Gardner’s jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning, then after Elks tried to get back in the game with three tallies in the top of the second, delivered a crushing blow by putting seven more runs on the board in the bottom half of the second, on the way to a 14-3 victory.
Robbie Marlett led the hot-hitting Gardner’s squad with three hits and Jordan Faretta, John Kimberling, Tyler Osterhout and Derrick Fisher each had two hits for the Candy Company who pounded out 13 hits, including doubles by Marlett, Kimberling and Fisher and a three-bagger by Faretta.
On the mound for the winners, Marlett and Jacob Belinda limited Elks to just one safety, a single by Josh Loose. Derrick Emigh, Justin Miller and Ryan Isenberg scored runs for Elks.
