The Bellwood-Antis cross country teams traveled to Alexandria to race against Juniata Valley and Bald Eagle Area on Tuesday afternoon.
The B-A boys defeated Juniata Valley 17-42 and Bald Eagle Area 20-42 to improve their record to 3-1.
Jamey Rimmey was the top Blue Devil runner with a second place overall in 19:53, closely followed by Josh Ervine, who was third in 20:01 and Eli Colyer, fourth in 20:01 and Brandon Beech, who was sixth in 20:27 and Ronnie Wilson, seventh in 20:44.
Bald Eagle Area’s Marcus Maggs was the first place finisher in 19:17.
Blue Devil Liam Flynn finished ninth with a time of 21:01 to give the B-A boys six runners in the top 10. B-A freshman Cory Miller was the Blue Devils seventh runner with a 13th place overall.
“The boys all had a nice day,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Julia Roseborough. “When we scrimmaged Juniata Valley earlier, we only beat them by five points. We have had four boys, Jamey, Eli, Josh and Brandon, pushing each other, running at or near the front. They have been stepping up for us every match.”
The Lady Blue Devils (1-3) were defeated by the Juniata Valley girls 21-34 and by Bald Eagle Area 25-30.
Bellwood-Antis’ Sarah Bell won the girls race with a time of 23:08, but Juniata Valley girls finished second, third, fourth and seventh and BEA girls ran sixth, eighth and 10th overall. Lady Blue Devil Kelly Killinger was ninth in 25:59.
Other runners for the Lady Blue Devils were Becca Colyer, 12th in 26:46, Brittany Webb, 13th in 27:15 and Emily O’Shea, 14th in 27:18.
“WE knew that our girls would struggle, but they are getting a little better every time they run,” said Roseborough. “Sarah ran a great race-her best time of the year. Kelly Killinger got into the 25s (minutes) for the first time. Nobody but Sarah and Kelly have done that this season.”
The Bellwood-Antis cross country teams will run in the Lion Invitational on Saturday at Fort Roberdeau, beginning at 9 a.m. and then travel to Tyrone for a tri-meet against Tyrone and Bishop Guilfoyle on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
