Jack Benner Sargent, 78, of Bellwood died Wednesday afternoon at his home.
He was born in Juniata, a son of the late Raymond and Kathryn (Benner) Sargent.
He married Joan Jewell on Nov. 22, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellwood.
Mr. Sargent is survived by his wife and children: Jewell Ann of Central City, J. Eric and wife, Janice of Pollock Pines, CA and Jason S. and wife, Stacey of Bellwood; grandchildren: Jana C., Dillon S., Torrey L. and Sabrina M. Sargent; also many cousins.
He retired as a brick layer and stone mason and did specialty stone work throughout the east coast.
He was a Navy veteran serving during World War II.
Mr. Sargent was of the Roman Catholic Faith and attended services at the Van Zandt Veterans Hospital.
Jack was a white water paddling enthusiast, he enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing, riding bicycles and motorcycles, hiking, hunting and was an avid outdoor enthusiast.
He was a devoted activist for Alcoholics Anonymous and also volunteered at the Van Zandt Veterans Hospital, Altoona.
To honor Jack’s request, he was cremated and there will be no viewing, visitation or memorial service.
