Mr. Clair G. Sharer, age 88, of Bald Eagle, RD3, Tyrone died Monday, February 13, 2006 at the Tyrone Hospital. He was born December 23, 1917 at Bald Eagle, the son of Edward and Esther Adams Sharer and on October 18, 1941 at Chesterfield, SC was married to Betty L. Ammerman who preceded him in death August 28, 1998. He is survived by two children, Patricia, wife of Anthony Varacalli, Boalsburg and Jerome Sharer and wife Tanya of Bald Eagle; four grandsons: Michael Wolff and wife Ann Marie, David Wolff and wife Ramona, Tony Sharer and wife April and Matt Sharer; seven great-grandchildren: Sydney and Cooper Wolff, A.J. and Marina Wolff, Amber Dougherty and Haley and Taylor Sharer. He was preceded by three sisters and two brothers and was the last of his immediate family.
Mr. Sharer had been employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired in April 1979 from Westvaco where he had been employed on the loading dock. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army in World War II where he was a member of the 104th Calvary serving in the European Theatre. He was a member of the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church and of the men’s Bible class. He was a life member of the Bald Eagle Volunteer Fire Company, a life member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company and a life member of Anderson Denny Post No. 4559 VFW. He was an avid gardener and loved fishing, hunting and the outdoors, and during the latter years of his life, he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service for Clair G. Sharer will be Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church with Pastor Peggy Bonsell presiding. Private interment will follow in the Bald Eagle Cemetery. Friends may call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Wednesday, February 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
