Virgil G. Wineland, 90, Sinking Valley, Tyrone RR1, formerly of Martinsburg, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, August 24, 2006 at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg.
He was born October 25, 1915 in North Woodbury Township, son of the late William C. and Mary E. (Tetwiler) Wineland. He was twice married: first to Lillian M. Smith June 5, 1938, in Martinsburg. She died August 18, 1986. He then married Mary R. (Worthing) Hinish March 10, 1990, at Martinsburg RR1. She died April 23, 2000.
Mr. Wineland was a member of Tyrone Church of the Brethren and former member of Memorial Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg, where he had served as deacon, held various church offices and served on various committees.
He retired as district foreman at Valley Rural Electric, Martinsburg District office, in 1979 with a total of 38 years of service.
Mr. Wineland was a 1932 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg.
He enjoyed woodworking and traveling, including with several people to people tours.
Mr. Wineland was a former member of the Martinsburg Rotary Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie W. Crawford (husband James B.) of Sinking Valley; two step-daughters: Jeanne K. VanName of Lynchburg, VA and Diana H. Kearney of Hurricane, WV; a granddaughter, Kelly (Crawford) Fedeli (husband Shane) of Hershey; three step-grandchildren; a sister, Alverda Guyer of Martinsburg and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins, including John Tetwiler of Port Royal, who was raised in the family home.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Lethian Shriver, Dorothy K. Wineland, Levinia Bishop and Meredith Smith.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at John C. Bolger Funeral Home, Inc. Martinsburg.
A memorial service to be held at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren will be announced at a later date.
