The Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis cross country teams participated in the Lion Cross Country Invitational held at Fort Roberdeau on Saturday and sponsored by the Penn State Altoona Cross Country team, who are coached by Tyrone native Doug Hoover.
The race was divided into six separate categories-college men, college women, high school men, high school women, plus an open comptition for both men and women.
In the cllegiate womens’ division, Tyrone grad Emily Ingle, running for Robert Morris University, was third overall in 20:56. Ingle, a freshman runner for Robert Morris was just 18 seconds behind first place runner Allyson Sheehan of Saint Francis University. Led by Ingle’s effort Robert Morris finshed second in the team race.
Central Cambia’s Carly Seymour blazed to her second straight Lion Invitational win in meet record time of 18:18, 21 seconds better than the previous mark and one minute-27 seconds ahead of her closest competition. Central Cambria won the girls title.
The Bellwood-Antis girls finished 14th out of 22 schools with a total of 111 points. Sophomore Kelley Killinger was the top Lady Blue Devil placing 52nd in a time of 23:18. Senior Sarah Bell was 81st in 24:13, sophomore Emily Derr was 90th in 24:23, soph Emily O’Shea 134th in 25:47, ninth grader Emily Derr 154th in 26:39, and senior Brittany Webb 200th in 28:54.
Other runners for the Lady Blue Devils included Erin Morrissey (208th), Jenna Nevling (209th), Nicole Post (2123th), Andrea Isola (222nd), Leslie Mills (224th) Rachel Bilka (225th), Danielle Blatt (228th) and Sara Shaulis (230th).
The Tyrone girls only had four, participate, topped by sophomore Christina Dougherty who was 173rd in 27:17. Ninth grader Elizabeth Shields was 199th in 28:53, sophomore Salena Bradigan was 220th, and junior Brittany Hosband was 223rd.
In the high school boys race, Travis Dean from Westmont-Hilltop was the winner in 16:56, while Sherado High School of Virginia,won the team title.
The Bellwood-Antis boys squad finished 21st in the team race out of 26 school with 503 points, Tyrone was 25th with 626 points.
B-A junior Ben Hatch had the highest finish of the day for the two local schools with a 40th place finish in 18:47. Ninth grader Cooper Campbell was 103rd in 20:26 for the Blue Devils followed by sophomores Tyler Hunter (112th in 20:33) and Jeff Stuby (154th in 21:19). Senior Garett Wyland was 167th in 21:30, sophomore Corey Miller was 172nd in 21:35 and classmate John Wolfe was 174th in 21:39.
Sophomore Dustin Elder was the top Golden Eagle with an 83rd place finish in 19:54. Eagle freshman Nathan Kruis was 139th in 20:59, senior Philip Kreckle was 156th in 21:20, followed by sophomores Bradley McNeal (163rd in 21:27) and Randy Wilson (213rd in 23:03, senior Joe Miller (227th in 24:16 and Ben Smerekar (246th in 26:36).
