The Family Chill and Grill’s expanded area is now open as of 11 o’clock this morning.
The restaurant has operated on old Route 220 in Snyder Township near the Bald Eagle intersection for the last three years. Owner Scott Illig said the expansion has been in the works for about six months.
The restaurant has offered ice cream and food items from the grill with sit down service at a counter and tables. The restaurant has had seating for about 50 people prior to the expansion.
The new side of the building will be able to accommodate another 55 to 60 people, according to Illig. The restaurant had been employing about a dozen people and Illig said he’ll be able to employ two to three more people with the expansion.
Illig also said the expansion will bring some new features to the menu.
“We are going to offer pizza and subs,” said Illig. “We are going to make our own bread (and) our own dough right here. Everything will be able to be seen as we’re making it.”
Illig explained that concept will be no different than what the restaurant has already been doing.
“It’s almost the same concept that we have in the restaurant,” said Illig. “Everything is cooked right in front of you and you can see it happening. That’s a big seller and a plus for when people come in here.”
The Family Chill and Grill is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Illig operates the store with his wife Juanita. Wayne Kaspick is the restaurant manager.
One highlight each year for the restaurant is an annual fireworks display. The Family Chill and Grill has offered the display during the Fourth of July holiday as a way of saying thanks to its customers.
The restaurant phone number is 684-1990.
