Tyrone’s seventh grade basketball team hosted Our Lady of Victory of State College, Friday at the high school gym and soundly defeated their opponent 24-11.
The Eagles got out to an early lead of 12-2 and kept the distance the entire game.
Seven of 10 Eagles scored in a balanced attack. Nick Romano and Cody Dickson both got on the board for Tyrone helping them to a 3-0 start for the season.
Saturday evening, the squad traveled to the Building II in Altoona to tip-off their season against a 5:00 p.m. meeting with the Marauders from Bishop Guilfoyle.
Tyrone matched up in a man to man defense for the Eagles the entire way led by a gutsy effort from Steve Franco holding Guilfoyle’s best athlete to eight points while matching his mark offensively as well.
B.G. played the first half in zone defense but trailed 19-12 at the break.
Following the break Tyrone drew the Marauder’s defense out and forced them to match up in man to man defense.
The Eagles spread offense led by Richard Crabtree’s court awareness and game high of 12 points followed by a timely 3-pointer launched up by Jordan Corl, that found nothing but nylon, put B.G. to rest with a final score of 35-22.
Tyrone improved their overall record to 4-0 and will meet Hollidaysburg Thursday evening at Roosevelt Gymnasium for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
