The Bellwood-Antis junior high boys basketball team hosted Southern Huntingdon on Monday afternoon. Bellwood-Antis and Southern Huntingdon were involved in a close battle over the first two quarters, before the B-A boys jumped ahead and poured it on over the third and fourth quarters for a 54-41 victory.
With Zach Dionis leading the offensive attack, Bellwood-Antis led 20-15 at halftime.
The Little Blue Devils came out of the locker room in the second half and upped their margin over the Rockets’ junior high squad by 15 points at the end of the third quarter before coming out in the third quarter and taking a 15-point lead, which grew as big as 20 in the fourth quarter.
“We switched to man-to-man full-court pressure in the second half and that changed the tempo in our favor,” explained Bellwood-Antis junior high coach Kerry Naylor. “The third quarter was a pretty good example of how we like to play. Our defensive effort was intense and our guards knocked down open shots, especially Dionis, who was aggressive in taking his man to the basket. When we play like that, we can be tough to beat.”
Dionis scored 19 points to lead the Blue Devils, and Nate Plummer added 15 and nine rebounds and Troy McCrum scored 13 points.
Bellwood-Antis (4-1) plays Chestnut Ridge on the road today.
