Thanksgiving is right around the corner and, while it’s a little over a month and a half away, Christmas will be here before we know it.
Area churches, along with various organizations, are already preparing for the holiday season.
The second annual craft fair will be held tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 12th Street entrance. There will be a bake sale, luncheon items and soup available also.
The Carmelite Sisters of the Word, serving locally at St. Matthew’s Church, invite everyone to enjoy food and fun at their annual spaghetti dinner and pre-Christmas fair on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bishop Guilfoyle High School in Altoona. There will be games to play, all kinds of prizes to win and plenty of items to buy at the baked goods, homespun treasures and white elephant booths. Proceeds support the Sisters’ spiritual, educational and ministerial activities throughout the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese.
A holiday bazaar will be held at the Warriors Mark Fire Hall on Rt. 550 next Saturday, November 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be crafts, baked goods and homemade soup. Lunch will also be available.
Also next Saturday, the Church of the Brethren will host a bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a rummage sale, baked goods and bean soup by the quart and by the bowl. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the menu includes sloppy joes, hot dogs and kraut, bean soup and homemade pie.
If that’s not enough to keep everyone busy next weekend, the First Presbyterian Church will also host a quilt show, bake sale, vegetable soup and sandwich and yard sale on Saturday, November 17 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
But, there’s more to the holidays than shopping. With all those holiday visitors, be sure there are enough special treats at home to share with guests.
The United Methodist Women of the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church, are currently taking orders for cheeseballs. Orders are due by November 25.
Pick-up at the church fellowship hall on Thursday, November 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. Interested individuals can order today by calling Dot Spanelli at 684-2510; Pat DeArment at 684-4548 or Eleanor O’Brien at 686-0562. The group will deliver locally.
