Tyrone Legion and third place ReMax Realty were locked up in a tight 1-1 baseball game at the Harry K. Sickler Athletic Park on Tuesday evening, in George B. Kelley Federation action, until ReMax broke open the contest with a five-pack of runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-2 victory.
Each team scored a single run in the second inning, and Tyrone Legion wasn’t able to break through again, until they added one more in the bottom of the seventh.
Donnie Hunter and Kris Decker each had two hits for Tyrone Legion. Hunter had two doubles, and Decker cracked one two-bagger. Eric Desch and losing pitcher Brock Anders each knocked in one run for the Legion.
Anders went the distance with four strikeouts and seven walks.
Anders controlled the top of the ReMax lineup, the top four hitters in the ReMax order were a collective three-for-15, with two of the three hits by Chris Perry. However the bottom four was a hefty seven-for-12, including three hits by Pat Tomassetti and two each by Adam Johnson and Zach Folcarelli. J.R. Gearhart had two RBI for ReMax, and Johnson, Tomassetti and Folcarelli had one each.
Gearhart fanned five and walked three to pick up the victory for ReMax (18-5).
Tyrone Legion (8-13) completes their regular season tonight, with a game at Vets Field against ReMax at 5:30 p.m., and the completion of a game against Park Furniture at 8 p.m. Playoffs will start Friday, and be played at Vets Field and Mansion Park, with the top seven teams involved in the playoffs. At the present time, Tyrone Legion and Locker Room are fighting for the final playoff spot. Both have eight wins, although Locker Room has 15 losses and Tyrone Legion, by virtue of a doubleheader sweep earlier in the season, has the tiebreaker advantage over Locker Room, who must play first place Barkman Oil/Russell Trucking tonight at Hollidaysburg. Corporal Miller (9-14) is also in the mix for a playoff spot, but Tyrone Legion also has the tiebreaker over them, if they finish in a tie, by virtue of a 1-1 season split with Tyrone scoring 11 runs in the two ballgames to 10 for Cpl. Miller. Two of those three teams will make the playoffs.
