Most of the Kiwanis Club of Tyrone funds are used to support local projects including: Smoke Detectors for Newborns, Special Olympics, Tyrone-Snyder Public Library, Salvation Army, and numerous youth athletic teams.
The Kiwanis Club of Tyrone is finalizing plans for its Ninth Annual Dick Dutrow Memorial Golf Tournament.
The tournament will be held on Friday, May 9 at the Sinking Valley Country Club.
Kiwanis member Pete Dutrow, one of Dick’s sons, is once again chairing the annual event that is held to raise funds for the Kiwanis Club’s various community and youth projects.
Most of these projects center on the Kiwanis International Theme of “Service Children of the World”.
“We urge businesses, industry and individuals to take part in the tournament. We will use a four-person scramble format with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. The day will conclude with a steak dinner and award presentations. We urge all area golfers to take part, either by entering a foursome or individually. We will pair you up with other smaller groups or individuals as appropriate,” said Dutrow.

The club also provides support to both the Tyrone Area and Bellwood-Antis High School Key Clubs, the “Terrific Kids” program and the Builders Club.
Kiwanis members regularly volunteer their time at the Epworth Manor, Tyrone Area Food Bank, Salvation Army and Railroad Museum. The club also provides financial support for orphanages located in Jamaica and Bulgaria.
Dutrow added, “This golf tournament quickly became an important part of our Kiwanis year – not only because our generous sponsors and golfers provide much needed funds for our annual budget – but also because it gives all of the golfers and Kiwanians a wonderful day of golf and fellowship.”
