Tyrone participated in the Mountain League Cross Country conference meet at Indian Valley on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagle boys finished in third place behind Indian Valley and Penns Valley, who waged quite a battle, before Indian Valley claimed a 37-42 edge for the conference title.
Dustin Elder was first across the finish line for Tyrone with an overall 10th-place finish in 18:16, followed by Rich Stever (13th in 18:27), Nathan Kruis (17th in 19:04), Nico Lambert (20th in 19:16), and Evan Patterson (32nd in 20:09).
Penns Valley’s Matt Brooker finished first overall in 16:23 and Indian Valley’s Alex Monroe was second in 17:04.
Other Eagle runners were Devon Weiser (39th) and John Friday (40th).
On the girls side, the Lady Eagles were able to field just three runners, with five needed to score in the meet, as the Tyrone girls team continues to have problems with numbers, illness and injury.
Ashley Salyer was 38th in 30:25, Salena Bradigan was 40th in 31:50, and Steph Schmidt was 41st in 33:54.
The girls race was won by Indian Valley with Philipsburg-Osceola second and Penns Valley third.
Individually, Lauren Simcox of P-O, was first in 20:20, followed by Shannon Yarger (20:30) of Penns Valley, and Alisha Jordan (21:00) of P-O.
A junior varsity race was also included. Indian Valley easily won the race, putting the first five boys across the finish line. The Eagles’ Travis Johnson was sixth in 21:13, Evan Lewis was eighth in 22:00, Ross Black was 11th in 24:03, Ethan Lewis was 15th in 25:02 and Ben Smerekar was 19th in 26:25 for the Tyrone junior varsity, who finished in second place.
Sam Yeaton was 27th for the Eagles.
