Leroy L. Hammond, 95, of 944 Tressler St., Boalsburg, Pa. died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
He was born April 1, 1913 at Loretto, Pa. a son of Peter C. and Mary R. (Glass) Hammond.
He was married April 20, 1968 to Betty Rider who died Jan. 24, 2001.
He is survived by three children: Connie H. McChesney (Ernest) of State College, Pa.; Cindy Zimmerman (Greg) of State College, Pa.; and Ricky Hammond (Robin) of Lemont, Pa.
Four grandchildren: Louis F. McChesney, Michael Hammond, Natalie Zimmerman, and Angela Zimmerman.
Three great-grandchildren.
Sister: Lorraine Shaw of California. Brothers: Earl Hammond in Bellwood, Pa. and Ernest Hammond of Baden, Pa.
There are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
He was a former member of St. Matthew Church, Tyrone and a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Boalsburg.
He was raised and worked the family farm, and as Hammond Bros. Construction, built homes for 20 years.
He retired in 1978 from H.F. Shultz Construction of Julian, Pa.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Rev. Eric Shafer officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Twp.
Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour before the service on Saturday.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, State College.
