The Altoona 4th of July Race Committee and the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA will present the 33rd Anniversary July 4th Races on Wednesday, July 4 at 8 a.m.
Hailed as Central Pennsylvania’s longest running road race, the event attracts runners and walkers of all ages and abilities from across the region. Each of the events is intended to be ambitious as well as to bring the community together for a day of friendly and spirited competition. The July 4th Race is the third event in the YMCA Community Wellness Challenge Series, and points will be awarded accordingly.
The featured events include: a challenging 15K certified run, a vigorous 5K certified run, a 3 mile loop walk, and a free lollipop run for kids.
Plaques will be awarded to the top two male and female winners in the 15K and 5K run. Awards also will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group for both running events.
Trophies will be awarded to the best overall male, and best overall female in the 3 Mile Walk. Medals will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group for the walking event.
The John Foreman Award will be given to the top 12 and under male and female 5K runner with the best time. First Commonwealth Bank will present an award to the fastest, first time participant in the 15K race.
All races will begin promptly at 8 a.m. at the Mishler Theater, 1208 12th Avenue, in downtown Altoona. Ample parking is available.
Pre-registration is $14 and guarantees entrants a T-shirt. Deadline for pre-registration is July 1. Family rate, three or more from the same household, is $12 each, provided members pre-register at the same time. Post-registration on race day will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and is $17. T-shirts will be available while supplies last.
Participants may register online at www.hollidaysburgareaymca.org, or stop by the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA for an application. Race packets can be picked up at the YMCA on Tuesday, July 3 until 8 p.m. Packets will also be available at the Heritage Plaza in downtown Altoona on race day.
The 33rd Anniversary July 4th Races are sponsored by Blair Orthopedic Associates and Sports Medicine, S&T Bank, and Mountain View Eye Associates. All proceeds benefit the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA’s summer youth programs.
