The 2002 edition of the Bellwood-Antis Band is preparing for this year’s competitive band season.
This year, through a special Polaris “Give-away” program, the band will be utilizing a new Polaris 700 HO 4-wheeler to perform the duties of transporting the stationary specialty percussion equipment referred to as the ‘Pit’ on and off the field. Helsel’s Hardware, the local authorized Polaris dealer, has the new 4-wheeler ‘ready to roll’ for the Blue Devil Band and ‘Pit Crew’.
The Blue Devil Band and Polaris will be ‘raffling off’ the 4-wheeler for a donation per ticket. This raffle will continue through the band season with displays at DelGrosso’s Park on July 19th, August 16th, and September 2nd. They will also have the 4-wheeler display at all Bellwood home football games and at the Bellwood-Antis Band Competition set for Saturday, September 21st.
The drawing will be held on November 16th at the culmination of the season.
The Blue Devil Band competes in Chapter IX of the Tournament of Bands (TOB) and plans on defending it’s Group II Chapter Champion status. For the past 4 seasons, the Blue Devils received an invitation to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships in which the top 25 bands of each Group (I-IV) compete for the ACC Championship. The Blue Devils brought home a coveted top 10 finish from the 2001 ACC tournament. The TOB includes bands from North Carolina to New York (9 states) which creates a challenge for Greg Roberts, Bellwood-Antis band director, as he attempts to bring home another great finish.
