Brian O’Connor and Brad Guy combined on a three-hit shutout as the Altoona Curve defeated the Binghamton Mets, 4-0 Thursday before 3,224 at NYSEG Stadium.
O’Connor (2-5) twirled seven scoreless innings, allowing only two hits in posting the win. The lefty walked five and struck out four in snapping a personal three-game losing streak. Guy finished up the Curve’s sixth shutout of the campaign with two scoreless frames of relief.
The win snapped a three-game slide for Altoona (47-48). Binghamton (48-47) had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Altoona scored all four of the game’s runs in the third inning against Binghamton starter Joey Cole (0-1). An RBI single by Kevin Sefcik and a two-run homer by Shawn Garrett were the key blows in the inning.
Sefcik’s single extended his hitting streak to 13 games and his on-base string to 18 games.
The Curve finished its eight-game road trip with a 2-6 record. The club returns to Blair County Ballpark Friday to open a seven-game, six-day homestand against the Bowie Baysox. In a duel of right-handers, the Curve sends Justin Reid (8-5, 3.90) against the Baysox Mike Paradis (4-10, 5.40).
