When Bellwood-Antis junior high girls basketball coach Steve Conlon was interviewed before the current season began, he was skeptical of his team’s ability to continue the recent winning ways. The B-A junior high girls’ had won three consecutive Juniata Valley junior high championships, but the well had run dry. This year’s team had no experience even in the basic fundamentals. Coach Conlon knew it would take some time before his girls were ready and able to perform at a winning level.
On Monday afternoon at the B-A gym, the Bellwood-Antis junior high girls took a huge step forward in their progress, turning back the Glendale junior high girls 24-14 for their first win of the year.
Ashley McAlevy led the way for the Lady Blue Devils with 11 points, Brittany Webb added seven and Greg had four.
Leyo led the Lady Vikings with four points and added three.
Bellwood-Antis (1-14) travels to Juniata Valley today for a 6 p.m. game.
