School of Charity
The Altoona-Johnstown Central Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has scheduled an Ozanam School of Charity, which will be open to all current Vincentians as well as anyone interested in learning more about the society.
Sessions will be held in Altoona on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Bishop Guilfoyle High School and in Johnstown on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the DePaul Caring Ministries on Franklin Street.
The School of Charity will cover all aspects of St. Vincent de Paul, including its structure and rules, Vincentian spiritually, the parish conference, twinning and special works projects.
There is no fee for the sessions.

Genealogical Society presents speaker
The Blair County Genealogical Society will present Curtis Fyock, professional surveyor of HS Lenz Company, as its guest speaker on Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Roller Hojeth Memorial Library in Hollidaysburg.
Mr. Fyock, of Johnstown, will discuss the proper procedures in using patents, land grants and warranties to aid in the search for past owners of local properties. These resources are available in the Blair County Genealogical Society Library collection.
Everyone is invited to attend this informative presentation. The meeting is open and free to the public. The library is located at 431 Scotch Valley Road in Hollidaysburg.
AARP luncheon
The next scheduled meeting of the local AARP group is Monday, Jan. 6 at noon at the Church of the Good Shepherd, located at 1620 Clay Avenue in Tyrone. The luncheon is a covered dish luncheon and those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and a table service.

All-you-can-eat turkey dinner
The Port Matilda Fire Co. is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat turkey dinner with all the trimmings on Sunday, Jan. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the fire station, located at the intersection of Main Street and Route 220. Take-outs are available by contacting 692-4074.
Stamp collecting camp
Registration is now open for Penn State’s Elderhostel course “The Passionate Hobby of Stamp Collecting: Secrets of the Complete Philatelist.” Participants will spend five days, Feb. 19-14, learning new skills and meeting fellow stamp enthusiasts.
