Tyrone’s Jr. High boys closed out their season with a 17-4 record after a 38-35 win at Clearfield last Thursday. With two starters (Adam Shaffer and Jim Gillam) out with the flu, the Baby Eagles stepped up and battled a tough Clearfield team, and took an 18-16 lead into halftime.
The second half was just as tough, as Tyrone took a 23-16 lead early in the 3rd quarter, only to see the Bison battle back to take a 29-28 lead into the fourth. But Tyrone answered the bell, led by Byron Kost’s five straight points, and then held off a last minute stampede to come away with the win.
“This was easily our best team effort of the year,” stated Coach Jim Domenick. ” Byron and Jordan (Campbell) stepped in for Jim and Adam, and really gave us a lift. Josh Shaffer (seven points) also stepped in nicely. Doug (Morrow) did yeoman’s work on the boards, while Adam (Corle) and Josh(Clark) seemed to be everywhere on the court.”
Morrow and Corle led the scoring with 11 points each, while Josh Shaffer tossed inseven. Byron Kost had five, and Josh Clark four to round out the scoring.
Next action for the Eagles is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. when they enter play in the Clearfield tournament.
