The Bellwood-Antis track and field teams used four double winners in a 105-45 win over Mount Union at Bellwood on Thursday afternoon and the Bellwood-Antis girls got three double winners in cruising past the Mount Union Lady Trojans 114-36.
Matt Rogers won the 110 high hurdles and 300 IM hurdles, Dan Houser took the 100 meter dash and long jump, Kyle Shiffler won what B-A coach Nick Lovrich termed the “gutsy two”, the 800 meter and 1600 meter runs and Damien Miller won both the high jump, with a personal best 5-7 and the triple jump.
Houser also led off the winning 400 meter relay team. Cory Daly won the 200 meter dash and anchored the winning 400 meter and 1600 meter relay teams. Aaron Bell won the 3200 meter run and Rudy Bilka won the pole vault for the Blue Devils. Matt Plummer ran a leg on each of the two winning relays, in addition to placing second in both the 200 meter dash and 110 high hurdles.
“We got a pretty good performance from everybody today,” said Coach Lovrich. “Kyle Shiffler had a good day in winning two distance events. Matt Rogers won the two hurdle events. It’s good to have Matt competing again after coming back from an injury. It’s nice to be able to count on him for sure points in nearly every meet.
“Damien Miller won the long and triple jumps and got a personal best in the high jump. I thought going in that Mount Union would give us a tough time, but our kids came out and gave some super performances. we had some young athletes step up and score points for us,” he continued. “We are trying to develop them so they can step in next year when this year’s seniors leave and give us quality efforts.”
The Bellwood-Antis thinclads improved their mark to 7-1.
Katie Gardner won the shot put and discus for coach Julie Roseborough’s Lady Blue Devils, Allison Cherry won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, and Ashley Smith won both the triple jump and pole vault and was part of the winning 400 meter relay team to lead the B-A women to improve their record to 6-2.
Emily Worthing won the 300 IM hurdles and led off the winning 400 meter relay. Jenna Ralston took the 800 meter run and anchored the victorious 3200 meter relay. Stephanie Hatch won the high jump and ran a leg on the 400 meter relay. Ashley Edevane won the pole vault and led off the 1600 meter relay team.
Holly Motter won four events to lead Mount Union. Motter has won 15 of 16 individual events this track season for the Lady Trojans.
