General Manager Chris Lash has announced staff changes at The Daily Herald.
“In the last few months, The Daily Herald has been diving deeper into the local news that occurs around us,” said Lash. “Considering these advances, we have decided to make staff changes that will bring better community coverage to our readers.”
G. Kerry Webster has been appointed to editor due to his experience and aspirations.
His responsibilities will include the supervision of all news coverage in Northern Blair County. His primary coverage beat, Antis Township and Bellwood-Antis School District, will continue to be the same. He will also assume copy editing responsibilities and front page pagination.
“I feel confident that I’ll be able to take The Daily Herald to the next level,” he said. “In the few short months I’ve been here, I found the Northern Blair County to be a haven for good, local stories.
“As editor, that’s what I want to bring – extended coverage of the people and events that surround you, our readers.”
He can be reached daily at The Herald offices from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. He can be e-mailed at dheraldnews@adelphia.net.
Kerry joined The Daily Herald staff in October 2002 as community editor. While in the position, he has re-designed the Community Page of the newspaper and added more pet news with the inclusion of “Companion’s Corner,” which appears each Saturday.
He graduated from Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School in 1992 and continued his education at Lock Haven University, where he studied sociology. He gained his first newspaper employment in June of 1997 as a staff writer for The Progress in Clearfield. In August 1999, he worked briefly with The Progress sports department before being promoted to bureau chief in January 2000.
Kerry resides in Osceola Mills with his wife Jeri.
Because of his ties to the community and his eye for page design, John Harlow has been appointed special features editor.
In his new role, John will be responsible for much of the page design work that occurs at The Herald. This not only includes special news and picture pages, but also entails the compiling and design of special tabloid publications.
“This actually makes my life a little easier,” said Harlow. “Kerry has forgotten more about news than I ever knew. We have a good mix here at the paper. This will be positive.”
Also, John will continue to provide the residents of Tyrone Borough and the Tyrone Area School District their local news stories. He will also assist Sports Editor Bob Miller with design of sport pages. E-mail him at dheraldnews2@adelphia.net.
John has been with The Herald staff for quite some time, working predominately in the sports department. He is an Operation Desert Storm veteran of the United States Army.
Christina Pryor’s personable attitude with the public and impeccable organizational skills has propelled her to the position of community editor.
Primarily, she will cover the Snyder and Tyrone townships and Bellwood Borough areas of Northern Blair County, but she’ll also be responsible for the fluffy things that occur. She’ll compile information for the Community Calendar and design that page, as well as the page holding Heloise, Horoscopes and Cryptoquote.
“Since joining The Herald staff, I have enjoyed my interactions with the people of the community,” said Pryor. “Everybody here at the office has been very helpful with my transition into writing for the paper, and I’m looking forward to my new role as community editor.
“Please feel free to e-mail me at dheraldnews3@adelphia.net with any fun and interesting story ideas, and I’ll be sure to get back to you.”
Christina joined The Herald staff in January. She graduated from Tyrone Area High School in 1997 and from Penn State University in 2001 with a B.S. in Secondary Education English and Communications . Prior to joining the staff at The Herald, Christina was employed as a teacher.
Christina resides in Birmingham Borough.
“John Harlow stepped up last year and took the editor’s position when The Herald was in dire need of news and direction. Now with these moves, our paper will go to the next level delivering news and information for northern Blair County,” said Lash. “I welcome the changes that you will see very soon,” he added.
