The Tyrone boys and girls cross country team honored the six seniors who ran their final meet in Tyrone prior to being edged by Bishop Guilfoyle. The Guilfoyle boys beat Tyrone 25-30 and the Lady Marauders scored a 21-36 victory over the Lady Eagles. In the girls’ race, Bishop Guilfoyle senior Sonja Hinish was flying over the 3.1 mile hill infested course at Tyrone. Hinish, an all-state track performer, covered the course in 20:55 to win the meet. A little over two minutes later Angela Greaser crossed the line in second place (23:03) and Emily Rose finished third for the Mauraders in 23:17.
The first Tyrone runner to cross the finish line was sophomore Emily Ingle who finished in 25:00. Tyrone senior Erin Langenbacher came home fifth in 25:04 and Rebecca Mogle came in sixth at 25:29.
Guilfoyle runners Elizabeth Glunt and Danielle Kaye finished seventh and eighth to give the Lady Mauraders the win. Amber Davis finished 10th for Tyrone in 34:00 and Adeena Harbst finished 11th in 34:02 to wrap up the scoring.
“Our girls ran great today,” said Tyrone cross country coach Tammy Snyder. “Emily (Ingle) and Erin (Langenbacher) cut two minutes off their times at home the last time we ran. Rebecca (Mogle) cut 41 seconds off her run. Amber (Davis) and Adeena (Harbst) ran great as well. Amber cut nearly four minutes off her time from the Penns Valley meet and Adeena cut 2:02 off of her time. The girls are improving everytime they run.”
The Tyrone boys were edged 25-30 by the Mauraders.
Colin McDowell won the meet in 19:33 for BG. The Mauraders came home with the second and third n the name of Chris Brown (19:44) and Bill Hamlin (20:09).
Tyrone would take the next five places. Tyrone senior Jim Gehret crossed the finish line in 20:50 to take fourth. Nathan Barber (21:27), Dane McCloskey (21:35), Chris Bradigan (21:46) and Eric Sweet (22:53) took the next four spots to place fifth through eighth.
“Jimmy (Gehret) ran his best race of the year,” said Snyder. “On the same course against Penns Valley, he ran a 22:13 and today he ran a 20:50. He has been battling being sick all season. He looked strong today and ran a great race.
“Nathan (Barber), Dane (McCloskey), Chris (Bradigan) and Eric (Sweet) also ran great races. Everyone cut significant amounts of time off of their runs. They are all working hard and I feel that at the District meet we could surprise some people.”
Tyrone said good-bye to six seniors who have spent four years in the program. Erin Langenbacher and Adeena Harbst graduate from the girls team and Jim Gehret, Dane McCloskey, Nick Barndt and John Wiser ran their final home meet for the Golden Eagles.
“This is the first group who I was with for their entire career,” said Snyder. “They are a great group of kids to be around and they will be greatly missed. They will all do well in life after they graduate from Tyrone.”
