The Tyrone girls volleyball team dropped a match to Bellefonte on Wednesday evening.
The Lady Eagles started strong with a first-game win, but then dropped the next three games.
Katie Whitby had 10 service points, Jeri Harper had seven kills, Stephanie Catich added eight blocks and Emily Lloyd had five digs for Tyrone.
“I was proud of the girls’ effort,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “We were able to do some things offensively that we hadn’t been able to do up to this point in the season. We made some mental mistakes in game two that probably made the difference in the outcome of that game and maybe the match because we would have gone up 2 games to 0. Emily Lloyd had her best game of the season so far. She’s very coachable and it’s starting to show in the way she’s playing right now.”
The Lady Eagles’ junior varsity squad lost to the Bellefonte Jayvees two games to one.
On Thursday, the Lady Eagles got back into the victory column with a three games to one decision over Indian Valley.
The Lady Eagles who improved to 4-6 with the win, jumped off to a quick start to take the first two game and after a loss in game three, put the Lady warriors away in game four 25-17.
Katie Schreckengost led the Lady Eagles with 14 service points, Sarah Mease had 21 digs, Ashley Roth added eight kills and Katie Whitby supplied 14 assists.
“Indian Valley keeps you guessing,” explained coach Eckberg. “They play the second contact over a lot and we don’t deal with that very well. Katie Schreckengost provided a big lift for us. Her serving had a real impact on the outcome of the match. Sara Mease had 21 digs; that’s a single game record for us. She really covered a lot of ground. She’s been our most reliable passer.”
Tyrone also won the junior varsity contest two games to none.
