The Tyrone Lady Eagles volleyball team traveled to Mount Union on Tuesday night to battle the Lady Trojans.
Sara Mease led the attack for the Lady Eagles with 14 service points as Tyrone improved their season record to 5-8. Stephanie Catich had five kills and five blocks and Katie Whitby had 11 assists for Tyrone.
Tyrone won in three straight games, delivering an easy 25-17 triumph in the opening game, then squeezing out two close wins, 25-23 and 26-24.
“We played from behind most of the night, but the girls were able to come back in games two and three,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “That was important because they really needed to stay focused because there was no room to give. We had four service errors in the first game, but our serve percentage in games two and three was 100%. Any service mistakes in those two games would have likely changed the results of the match. Hopefully we can build some momentum this week and take that into two tough matches next week with Philipsburg and Bellwood.”
The Mount Union junior varsity won two straight games to turn back the Lady Eagle Jayvees 25-18 and 25-10.
Tyrone will host Lewistown at 6 p.m. Thursday night at the Tyrone Elementary School gym.
