The Tyrone Elks Lodge No. 212 honored six Tyrone Area High School seniors as teenagers of the month for December.
Nominees were judged on the basis of multiple achievements including character, leadership, service, citizenship and scholastic achievement.
Senior Robbi Dick is the son of Lesa Dick of Tyrone. He was chosen as teenager of the month for his activities in school such as student council, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, school musicals, Vocal Attraction, school newspaper, concert choir, weight lifting and POPS Extension. Special school honors include the eighth grade National Science Award and eighth and ninth grade National Honor Roll.
His out of school activities include voice lessons, NHS community service, DelGrosso for Congress campaign and soloist at area churches. Work experience includes DelGrosso’s Amusement Park and WTRN.
Senior Thaddeus Westley is the son of Mark and Tina Westley of RD 3, Tyrone. He was chosen as teenager of the month for his school activities such as student council, wrestling and golf. Special honors include District VI Team golf champion, District VI individual wrestling champion and state qualifier.
His out of school activities include AYSO soccer, little league and Teener league baseball. Work experience includes the Sinking Valley Country Club.
Senior Stephanie Catich is the daughter of Gloria and Steven Catich of Tyrone. She was chosen as teenager of the month for her activities in school such as POPS Extension, volleyball, softball, Key Club, French Club, Varsity Club, and involvement in The Music Man musical and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat musical.
Special honors and awards include honor society, four varsity letters for volleyball, three varsity letters for softball and volleyball captain. Her out of school activities include church youth group, church choir and community service at Epworth Manor. Her work experience includes Gardners Ice Cream and babysitting.
Senior Teresa Fernandes is the daughter of Martha Fernandes of Tyrone. She was chosen as teenager of the month for her school activities including Recycling Club, Key Club, Art Studio, Community Outreach and Outdoor Biology Assistant.
Special honors and awards include National Honor Society and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test qualifier. Out of school activities include church youth group.
Senior Thomas Crowl is the son of Tim and Shirley Crowl of RD 3, Altoona. He was chosen as teenager of the month for his school activities including football, track, wrestling, peer jury, community outreach and honor roll.
Special honors and awards include first team conference all star, defensive back; second team all conference, wide receiver and second team all conference, return specialist.
Senior Emily Fitzgerald is the daughter of Charles and Jill Fitzgerald of Tyrone. She was chosen as teenager of the month for her involvement in school activities such as Key Club, Latin Club, Spanish Club, tennis team, school musicals, Latin Club President, Varsity tennis letter for grades ten through twelve and recycling program chair person.
Special honors and awards include second place 2003 Pennsylvania Recycling poster contest, NHS and art show awards. Out of school activities include church choir, volunteer at Epworth Manor and Sunday School teacher. Work experience includes childcare.
These seniors chosen for the Elks teenagers of the month, along with the other students chosen throughout the school year will be invited to a special banquet to be held at the Elks Lodge No. 212 in May of 2004.
