The quest of the Northern Blair County Regional Sewer Authority took another giant step forward this week in its vision to bring sewage service to more than 65 homes in the outlying areas of Snyder Township.
According to NBCRSA member Ray Amato, Guyer Brothers Inc. of New Enterprise was awarded a $573,308 contract to extend sewage service to 34 homes in the Cooks Hollow area.
He said Export’s Kukurin Contracting was awarded the bid to extend service to 13 homes in Tyrone Forge and 19 homes in Ironville.
According to Amato, before the Tyrone Forge project moves forward, the state Department of Environmental Protection must give its approval.
Amato said the funding for the extension projects were feasible after the authority received a $1.68 million Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority loan in July of 2002.
In addition, the township received a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant to help defray costs of the much-needed project.
The project in the Tyrone Forge/Ironville areas will begin sometime in the middle of April and should be completed by mid-August.
Amato said the Cooks Hollow section probably wouldn’t be complete until the end of November or early December.
“We’re happy about awarding these bids so we can get these projects going,” said Amato.
“Anytime we can extend sewage service we see it as a positive for the community.”
Amato noted that NBCRSA is examining the possibilties of providing sewage service to the Pinecroft, Riggles Gap and Sugar Run Hollow areas of Antis Township.
He said he hopes these projects can come to the surface in the next few years.
