Epworth Manor is announcing a driver safety class for older drivers at 9 a.m., Monday and Tuesday, March 22 and 23, to be held at 925 South Lincoln Avenue, Tyrone.
Individuals 55 years old or older who complete the eight-hour course are eligible for a state-mandated five percent discount on their auto insurance for a three-year period. If there are two or more individuals age 55 or older on an automobile policy, all must take the course to be eligible for the discount.
The sessions are designed as a refresher course to help drivers to improve driving skills and prevent crashes. The course also covers age-related physical changes in perception and reaction time, rules of the road and local driving problems.
A $10 fee per participant is required to cover handouts and student materials. Checks or money orders should be made payable to AARP.
All participants must be pre-registered and prepaid to attend this class. AARP membership is not required.
Early registration and payment is encouraged to reserve a seat since class size is limited.
According to AARP driver safety program instructor Larry Hainley, now that the weather is breaking, the classes are beginning to fill up fast.
Hainley also added that this is the third of 11 classes scheduled at Epworth Manor this year.
To register for the course, call Melissa Harpster at 686-2650 weekdays, during normal business hours.
