The Bellwood-Antis track teams rebounded from opening season losses to tough Bedford squads with a pair of wins at Bellwood, Tuesday over Chestnut Ridge and Philipsburg-Osceola.
The Bellwood-Antis boys mauled Philipsburg-Osceola 119-31 and edged Chestnut Ridge 78-72 to improve their record to 2-1.
Dan Houser took three individual firsts, winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes and the long jump, in addition to running a leg of the winning 400 meter relay. Matt Plummer won the 300 intermediate hurdles and the discus and Aaron Bell took the 1600 and 3200 runs and anchored the 3200 relay that clinched the win over Ridge.
B-A controlled the long distance events sweeping the 1600 meter run and getting first and second places in the 3200.
“It was really nice to get a win over a good Chestnut Ridge team,” said Bellwood-Antis boys coach Nick Lovrich. Our big guns did a good job-Dan Houser won three individual events and Matt Plummer and Aaron Bell each won two. But it was our second and third places that really made the difference in a close meet. We swept the pole vault and 1600 meters, our distance runners scored a lot of points for us and Tony DelGrosso, Tyler Narehood and Mike Thomas stepped up in the field events for us.”
The Lady Blue Devils creeped past Chestnut Ridge and smothered Philipsburg-Osceola 101-49 to also improve their log to 2-1.
All three B-A relay teams won to ease the wins along. Ashley Mueller won the high hurdles and was second in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Katie Gardner won the shot and Ashley Edevane won the javelin and was third in the discus. Allison Cherry won the 800 meters and placed second in the 1600. Allison Sinisi won the pole vault in a B-A sweep with Whitney Edwards second and Rachel Bilka third. Erica Green captured thirds in both the 100 and 200 dashes. Sarah Bell was second in the 3200 and third in the 1600 meters. Lauren Leap was second in the 400, Lauren Carter was second in the intermediate hurdles and Laura Ayers was second in the high jump. Haley Crider was third in the triple jump.
