Sue O’Brien has been sewing forever! Theatrically, however, she’s only been behind the needle of her sewing machine for about 15 years.
“The first show I did by myself was ‘Grease’ for the Tyrone High School in 1992,” she said, remembering the chaos. “I’ve done so many shows for TCP (Tyrone Community Players), both by myself and as part of a team, that I can’t recall them all.”
O’Brien is currently costuming the cast of “A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline” which will be presented at the Tyrone Elks Lodge August 9, 10, and 11. Thursday will be the show only and the Friday and Saturday shows are dinner theatre presentations.
“My very favorite show has always been ‘Oklahoma’ and I got to costume that one when TCP did it a couple of years ago,” O’Brien said. “I really enjoyed last spring’s ‘Suessical’ – that was a fun show because imagination played such a key in costuming.”
At Monday’s rehearsal, O’Brien completed measuring the newest member of Patsy Cline’s back-up quartet. Mary Ann Kurtz joins Ron Hildebrand, Bill O’Brien and Patrick Stalter, backing up Kate Coltabaugh who is reprising her role as Patsy Cline.
Mary Ann Kurtz sings with Tyrone’s Wesley Church choir, participates on the Chicago Rivet Relay for Life team, and has sung in two of the TCP cabaret shows. Mary Ann was last seen in “A Christmas Caroled.” Additionally, she sang in many other TCP productions, including “Taffeta Memories” and “Okalahoma.”
