A celebration of the family and of the United States is the theme of the next Afternoon Delights concert in Tyrone on Wednesday.
From Altoona, the Servello Family offers their audience a blend of the familiar and patriotic as part of a fun-filled afternoon. Last year, the Servello Family delighted the crowd for the first time at City Hotel Park, and this year they plan to do the same.
The Afternoon Delights concert is scheduled to begin at noon in the City Hotel Park.
The Servello Family has been performing for eight years. Jack, a musician for over twenty years, is a songwriter and records all of the music for the group. His wife, Barb, has always been involved with music in her church and enjoys performing with her family. Richard, their 13-year-old son, both sings and plays drums as part of the program.
Jack previously described their show to The Daily Herald as family-oriented and said it was perfect for downtown Tyrone City Hotel Park. He also said it’s a thrill to be outside playing music and entertaining the crowd for an hour as the people sit in the park or pass by.
Barb added that it is important to them to perform as a family, especially since many times acts are not family-oriented. She also said that Jack loves to go out and interact with the crowd as he performs.
Another aspect to the Servello Family performance is that ever since they began, they have always done patriotic songs as part of the show.
Barb said they honor the veterans who have served or who are currently serving the United States Armed Forces with the patriotic part of their show, and Jack has written some patriotic songs to go along with it.
The Servello Family enjoys performing music for all occasions, and they play at nursing homes, churches, parties, weddings, and patriotic assemblies for schools.
Along with patriotic tunes, other types of music the group enjoys playing are oldies and country.
This week\’s business host is Gardners Candies, who will be offering a certificate for a free sundae to those in the audience.
All programs are made possible by a grant from the PA Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Tyrone Borough.
The final noon concert is scheduled for July 7 and features the Tyrone High School Music Academy.
