Bellwood-Antis received three falls on Friday night to pull out a 33-30 victory over Moshannon Valley at Amesville.
Josh Ervine (140), Ron Colyer (152) and Dwayne Cherry (215) registered pins and Blue Devils Brandon Beech (130) and Ronnie Wilson (135) picked up forfeits to score maximum bonus points and Ricky Shawley, back in the lineup, decisioned John Cartwright 5-0.
After Moshannon Valley 119-pounder Ryan Jacoby opened the dual by shutting out Eli Colyer (14-7)., Bellwood-Antis won five of the following six weight classes to jump into a 27-9 advantage,
Shawley (10-9 )moved over the .500 mark with a shutout victory over Cartwright. The B-A sophomore opened with a takedown in the first period, added an escape for all the scoring in the second and then worked a reversal in the final period for the win at 125.
Brandon Beech (14-11) and Ronnie Wilson (8-14) picked up freebies at 13, and 135, respectively to shoot the Blue Devils into a 15-3 lead.
Josh Ervine (16-7) notched a takedown in each of the first two periods and added an escape, before decking Brandon Gardner at the 3:42 mark for his sixth straight win at 140. Dustin Harris (7-17) was pinned by Ron Queen for the Knights’ only fall at 145.
Ron Colyer (7-16) and John Zeigler were knotted up 3-3 after two period at 152, before the Bellwood-Antis senior picked up a penalty point, then reversed Zeigler to his back for the fall in 4:37.
Kyle Smith decisioned Garett Wyland 8-4 at 160, but in yielding no bonus points, Wyland (1-6) left the match still in the Blue Devils hands. B-A would need one big win.
B-A senior veteran Dwayne Cherry produced that much-needed victory margin by pinning Josh Lewis in 5:50. Knowing there would be one more forfeit for the Knights, Bellwood-Antis’ Cherry (13-5) took just a scant 3-2 lead into the third period over Lewis before sending the B-A fans down the mountain to Bellwood happy turning and pinning Lewis with 10 seconds to wrestle.
Fred Disher (171), Brandon Murarik (189) and Andy Stine (275) picked up forfeits for Mo Valley and there were no matches at 103 and 112.
“We picked up three falls, bonus points that were huge since we won by three,” explained Bellwood-Antis coach Ron Wilson. “We gave up three forfeits, so Josh, Ron and Dwayne gave us a huge boost. The matches we lost on the mat, we kept close and didn’t give up any bonus points.”
