Joshua House’s Seventh Annual Hoopsfest has finally arrived, and tomorrow, the best three-on-three basketball teams in the area will play in downtown Tyrone.
Director of Joshua House, Jim Kilmartin, said as of Friday morning, there were over 50 teams signed up for the tournament.
Teams from Tyrone, Bellwood, Spruce Creek, Altoona, State College, Claysburg, Philipsburg, Windber, Berwick, Harrisburg, Baltimore and Albany are on the roster.
Kilmartin added drink donations of soda and Gatorade would be greatly appreciated. Those who would like to donate those items may drop them off at Joshua House throughout the day or at the back door.
Basketball games will be played on 10th Street and Logan Avenue, with activities in the Tyrone Armory as well. The M & T parking lot will also be used for other activities.
Divisions will include: grades 4-5 mixed; grades 6-7 mixed; grades 8-9 boys and girls and grades 10-12 boys and girls.
Open divisions will include: women’s, recreational, competitive, all star and 60 and over.
The day’s events will feature prizes for all divisions, a dunk contest, three point contest and hot spots.
Registration fee is $50 before July 20 and $60 on the day of the event.
Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Games start at 10 a.m. There will be a break at lunch.
Playoffs/championship games will be held between 3 to 4 p.m.
Corporate sponsors include: G&R Excavating—The Professional Home Wreckers and The Family Clothesline in downtown State College. Trophies and awards will be provided by Quality Award in Altoona.
On Saturday, there will also be street and food vendors, an old fashioned ice cream truck, family entertainment, giveaways of gift certificates and pizzas and activities in the Tyrone Armory.
