Last night, Bellwood Borough Council held its final meeting of 2004, adopted several new ordinances, and heard updates regarding Bellwood’s newest restaurant.
The council heard from the Morningstars regarding the restaurant they plan to open at the former Martins building on Main Street.
At a previous meeting, Mr. Morningstar passionately described his wife’s dream of owning a restaurant in the area. She has had previous experience at area restaurants such as the Fifth Wheel and B&D’s in Tyrone.
With his wife’s previous experience, Morningstar said, “We already have a customer base of about 70 people who have said they will visit the restaurant when we open.”
The restaurant will serve homestyle meals and will offer a delivery service. Hours will be 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The couple hope to have the restaurant up and running for the new year, with a tentative opening date during the first week in January
“We’re glad to see another restaurant, another business come to our town,” Council member Wayne Snare said at the November meeting.
Council continued to show support for the new business.
“Bellwood’s a nice community, I’m glad we can open this restaurant here,” said Mrs. Morningstar.
Also on the agenda for the evening were several ordinances that required adoption. Storm Water Management ordinance 463 was adopted, enabling the borough to correct some of the runoff problems due to the extensive work being done on the north side of town. The new Wolf’s Furniture also has a copy of the ordinance and will comply with the contents.
The 2005 Tax Millage Ordinance 464 was also adopted, keeping taxes at 24 mills.
Also, an ordinance detailing the requirements of sexually oriented businesses wishing to open in the area was adopted.
Previously the council discussed their options regarding these types of businesses and used models from other municipalities to draft an ordinance for the borough. A public meeting was held to hear input from area residents on the subject.
An ordinance was also passed setting regulations for the parking and operation of vehicles during snow removal. The new ordinance gives the Mayor the power to declare a snow emergency. In such a case, there will be specific parking requirements in order to benefit the quick and easy removal of snow.
The 2005 meeting times were also set for the first Monday of each month with the exception of July and September. During these specified months, the meetings will be held on Tuesday, July 5 and Tuesday, September 6. All meetings are held at 6:30 in the Borough municipal building.
