November marks National Homecare and Hospice Month and many people chose to complete volunteer training through Home Nursing agency.
A trio of Tyrone residents including Amy Stever, Brenda Boyle, and Sharon Stauffer recently completed 24 hours of hospice volunteer training through Home Nursing Agency.
Through the training classes, volunteers are educated on the hospice philosophy of care, communication skills, understanding family dynamics, stress management, terminal illness, pain control, and bereavement support. Classes prepare volunteers to provide various services and to meet the individual needs of hospice patients and caregivers.
According to the Home Nursing Agency, “Compassion lies at the core of homecare and hospice services.
“Specially trained volunteers like Stever, Boyle and Stauffer, are the heart of Home Nursing Agency Hospice.”
According to a press release, “Over 70 volunteers joined Home Nursing Agency’s team of caring professionals who provide around-the-clock support, relief, and companionship for patients experiencing a life-limiting illness so that they may live as comfortably as possible in the comforts of home – surrounded by family and loved ones.
“Last year, Home Nursing Agency hospice volunteers gave over 5,600 hours of service to patients and their families throughout Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon, Cambria and Franklin Counties.”
Since 1968, Home Nursing Agency has depended upon the generosity of community residents to help establish and ensure the Agency’s steadfast mission of providing health care for anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay.
