Will Jones, proprietor of Lion Martial Arts, has a lot to be excited about.
Not only has Jones moved his Lion Martial Arts School to a new location, but he has also expanded the training programs.
“Lion Martial Arts School is Tyrone owned and operated for nine years as a business,” explained Jones.
The school was previously located at 1606 Columbia Avenue, and Jones has since moved it to a much larger facility at 1002 Logan Avenue, Tyrone.
Jones now features two separate training programs, the martial aerobics and fitness program and the combat martial arts program.
The martial aerobics and fitness program includes many fitness routines combined into one class. Jones incorporates aerobics, resistance training and yoga to the program as well as added a martial arts touch with kickboxing.
“I’m pretty excited about that,” Jones added about the martial aerobics and fitness program. “We’ve had some pretty dramatic results with the people. Some have dropped four dress sizes in a month.”
Jones accepts students for the martial aerobics and fitness program from ten-years-of-age and up.
Martial aerobics and fitness is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m.
Another training program Jones instructs at the new location is combat martial arts.
The program is based on Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do.
“It’s non-traditional,” explained Jones. “There’s no traditional stances. It’s all reality-based self-defense.”
The program is multi-range and addresses long range, mid-range and close-range fighting skills.
Jones accepts students for the combat martial arts from seven-years-old and up.
Combat martial arts is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.
Jones said he is always taking new students, and for more information, individuals may call 684-LION.
