The Bellwood-Antis boys and girls track and field teams competed at the annual Shippensburg University Invitational on Saturday, April 16, 2005.
Allison Sinisi placed third in the girls’ pole vault and Steph Hatch was third in the high jump to lead the Lady Blue Devils to an 18th place finish out of 30 AA schools.
Natasha Bumberger of Juniata Valley was seventh in the discus and Huntingdon’s Stephanie Varner won the AA pole vault (9-0) as the Lady Bearcats finished 20th.
Altoona’s Rachel Gehret highlighted the girls AAA field establishing an Invitational record in the high jump (5-6), set a school record by winning the long jump with a leap of 18-4, won the 200 dash and finished second in the triple jump to pace the Altoona girls to a third place finish.
The Blue Devil boys 3200 relay team of Evan Hughes, Chris Edmiston, Ben Hatch and Aaron Bell placed fourth in the boys AA race. Hatch was also fourth in the 400 and Bell was fourth in the 3200 run.
Bellwood-Antis finished 16th out of 36 boys teams.
Bedford won the boys AA competition with troy Harris winning the 300 intermediate hurdles, placing third in the 11 high hurdles and anchoring the victorious 400 relay team and the 1600 relay team, which placed sixth. Derek Harris was first in the long jump and a member of the 400 and 1600 relays and John Marshall set a school record in the triple jump, competing for the first time this year, with a combined leap of 44-3. A vault of 12-6 by Mike Young placed second for the Bisons in the pole vault.
